The Tear Book

The “tear book” made of acrylic and filled with salt water transforms my life changing experience of visiting Naoshima Island in Seto Inland Sea, Japan.

The cover is an engraved map of the island and handwriting.

Salt, the element of sea water, also the element of human tears, is the main content of the book, which connects the island and human experience. The transparency changes the “book” into colors when it is placed in different environments, just like how a piece of memory is reflected differently in different stages of our lives. When we truly open up five senses, the language of feelings could be ultimately beyond any material and word.

If your life is to be made into a “book,” how would you make the content?
